Mrs. American Dream - and What She Means for Our Culture

ree

In recent years, I've all but given up on our nation. It seems more and more we are drifting from the core values that made us a country. We've gone so far off the deep end that we can't even remember what the difference is between a man and a woman.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we often bemoan this fact, but is it really so surprising? We know that this world will become more and more corrupted by our sin and the work of Satan on this earth until God's final judgement. Our job is to be faithful, to be lights in a dark world, and to share the truth of Christ's redeeming work for us.

And yet, every now and then, I find little nuggets of hope. Even in the midst of a perverse society, God's perfect and beautiful plan can't help but be acknowledged and revered. I was reminded of this as I learned of the winner of the Mrs. American Pageant.

A woman named Hannah Neeleman won the pageant over this past weekend and now holds the title of Mrs. American 2023.

Out of hundreds of contestants, Hannah Neeleman, a farmer's wife, a mom of 7, a Christ - follower, and a former ballerina, won. In a world where drag queens exemplify womanhood, and masculinity and femininity bleed together like tie-die, it's incredibly rewarding to see that our society still can't help but acknowledge the ideal of God's original plan for women. At the heart of it, we can't help but acknowledge how rewarding being a homemaker, a wife, a mother, and a straight-up hard-working woman is.

Due to being inundated by lies about femininity and masculinity, I totally forget that being a woman is pretty cool. So, I want to take a few minutes to pen what I think are the superpowers of godly women, or women as God created us to be. Here's just three that come to mind -

God made us to be nurturers of life. That may mean of raising children, of caring and bringing back to health those who are sick, of building our husbands up and supporting their health with good meals, of cultivating a safe place for others to share within our work environments.

God also made us to nurture or beautify our environments. As women, we have the fun and special role of having an "eye" for making things more beautiful. We are meticulous in a different way than men. Put simply, we are innately wired to make things a little bit "nicer."

We're intuitive. Women are almost always more intuitive than men. Perhaps it's an instinct that helps us to foresee the needs of our children almost before they have them. Or perhaps it's what helps us seem more neurotic and paranoid than men. Regardless of how it comes across or how it can become a crutch, I'm so thankful for the ability to read a room and foresee the needs of others. It's definitely a superpower that when humbly surrendered to God, can be used in incredible ways.

These are just a few of the things that I see in myself and others that are unique superpowers that God has given women.

I love that Hannah Neeleman has been recognized nationally for these traits despite a post-feminist agenda that would seek to discredit these traits.

Let's be inspired and encouraged by what she is doing to exemplify the true American woman! Let's keep standing for what we know is true, beautiful, biblical womanhood.

Thank you, Hannah for setting us an example! Let's all, like Hannah, hold our heads high and wear our crowning glory of womanhood proudly.
